The Beef Barn Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I looooove the Beef Barn. I always get the chicken cutlet special with no tomato and french dressing. I can understand why some people think that its a place just for locals because if you go in there expecing some amazing 5 course meal, you are not going to get it. The wait staff is always very pleasant.

If the name "the Beef Barn" doesn't grab you and pull you in then...this probably isn't the place for you. Well it's name certainly drew ME in. I like good beef and when we drove by and I saw the name I knew I just had to stop. Let me explain. This place is counter service and some tables. The menu has maybe 10 things on it. You basically open the menu up and can skim it in 10 seconds. What's on the menu? Roast beef sandwiches, hamburgers, pastrami sandwiches. And no, they aren't messing round. Behind the counter is a giant roast on a spit where they carve the melt-in-your- mouth meat from. There are simple toppings: onion, mushrooms (canned which is my one gripe), cheese...You get the idea. Don't bring your PETA advocate, vegetarian friends here...it would probably give them nightmares. Especially since one of the rooms is AWESOME, set up like a barn with Taxidermy; goats, chickens, lil chicks sit in a coop like setting. (It is called the beef BARN people) They have great sandwiches, great fries and great milkshakes at great prices! The wait staff has always been very kind and helpful. Over all? a great place to grab some grub.

Great place for a quick and cheap meal. They have great roast beef and Burgers. One of the only places you can go and eat for 4 for under 20 bucks. What is unbelievable is the food is VERY VERY good. FYI : its not a health food place so if you are looking to a diet place stay away for here.

Simple, delicious food. If you're looking for a fancy place to eat, this isn't the place. A unique little place that gets surprisingly busy on the weekend. Self seating, paper plates and plastic silverware alongside really good food. The roast beef sandwiches are exceptional!

A hidden treasure, and a real gem. I didn't like roast beef until I tried Beef Barn. Their hot roast beef sandwiches are like none other: small (about hamburger-sized) on soft grilled rolls, piled high with perfectly-cooked thin-sliced roast beef. On some days the roast beef is better than others, I think; I try to go on Thursdays through Sundays. The fries are excellent. Burgers and hot dogs likewise. The burgers have a unique flavor that reminds me very much of the ones I used to get at Big Top in Westport, CT, many years ago (Big Top has been closed for at least twenty years now). All portions are smallish, but the prices are in proportion. One sandwich and a large fry (or maybe two fries) makes a decent meal for me, and I'm not a light eater. The barbecue sauce that they have at their tables is worth special mention: it's not smoky at all, not at all thick, but it has a nice heat to it. It's good enough that they actually sell it in fifty-cent containers to go. They also have packets of barbecue sauce, but those are the standard stuff. If you like a little spiciness, it's worth spending the extra 50 cents. I like to dip fries in the sauce. The parking lot is a bit of a pain. There are effectively two sides to it, and the passage between the two is often blocked by inconsiderate drivers who park and block the lane. The decor is really, really memorable. It's a barn, with all sorts of imaginative and whimsical decorations. There's a train that circles around the ceiling in the middle of the place (it's not always running, though). There's a small chicken-coop dining area with stuffed chickens and other oddities. There are also a number of two-person tables in the silo, with a balloon and other strange things looking down on the diners from above. At Christmastime they have a set of automated bells outside that play Christmas carols; a very nice and tasteful touch. All in all, the layout is VERY compact - but it works. In addition to tables and booths there's a counter with stools. The bathrooms are really tiny, though, and definitely not wheelchair-accessible. They only accept cash, and there is no ATM machine on the premises. The closest machine is at the Stop & Shop a few minutes up the street. What can I say? The Beef Barn is a really special place. There's nowhere else like it!

It is what it is: a fast food restaurant specializing in roast beef sandwiches within a kitschy barn setting. You'll eat on paper plates, and your order will be served in minutes. I order mine with cheese and fries and recommend that you do the same. It will be cheap and, yes, you'll be elbow to elbow with locals. Yet I like it.

Chicken finger special is my go to meal! How can you go wrong with chicken, fries and salad for about $5? Small and cozy place that only accepts cash. Great place to go for a quick and easy meal. Cant forget about those milkshakes! Mmm!

I've been going to the Beef Barn for almost 3 years now. I was hesitant at first - a restaurant called "Beef Barn" doesn't sound all that appetizing but I sure was wrong. It's a bit out of the way for us but well worth the trip up 146. I order a roast beef special (comes with salad and fries) with swiss, mushrooms and mayo and it disappears within minutes! Add a coffee shake and peanut butter pie, or ANY pie for that matter and I am one happy gal. You are in and out of there within 15 minutes tops if you're in a rush. The decor instantly warms your heart with different country themes (I love the chicken coop and barn silo room). Plastic utensils, plates and cups, you cannot go wrong at this afforable gem. You can tell the customers have been coming here for many, many years and I am glad to be one of them! My favorite sign in the restaurant is "Apple pie without ice cream is like a hug without a kiss" :-)

Not a very great atmosphere. QUITE cramped. Service not too friendly. Awkward parking lot. Food is mediocre. I ordered a roast beef sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Came to me assembled sloppy and without mayo. They instead threw packs of mayo into the bag. OH, and they only take cash.

I use to live right down the road from this place when I lived in Rhode Island. You have not lived until you tried the roast beef and hand cut french fries. They are awesome and the prices are really good too.

Simply fantastic. The sandwiches are big enough to satisfying and small enough to get two - which is recommended. I've been here a couple of times and the roast beef sandwich is perfect with the homemade BBQ sauce. Make sure to use liberally. It's cute and quaint, and the diner Coffee and Cream next door is great for late night debauch accompaniment or morning after booze soak-ups.

My father-in-law raved about this place because he loved it as a kid. Well, it hasn't changed a wink since then. Neither has the value of the roast beef. Might have to give it another shot, but I was less than impressed.

THE place to go for a tasty roast beef sandwich! Have been eating here since I was a child. Always consistent. Wait staff is friendly and service is quick. Always a great experience. 2 thumbs up!

The beef barn was once a gem in a tainted town, I remember going there as a kid and being mesmerized by the entire old time decor. So here is a rough break down of the BEEF barn, the minute you walk into the beef barn you are hit with the sense that you have gone back in time with all the offbeat decor. there is a little diner style bench with 6-8 stools which is nice for people on the go it almost makes the waitresses kick it into over drive other than that, there is plenty of tables. The roast beef sandwiches are warm on a bun nothing whimsical just beef and bun, unfortunately they have (like many) started skimping on product to save money (my guess) the steak sandwich is actually my favorite thing on the menu its just steak and bun in perfect harmony (the way it should be) nothing special but a classic none the less, they have odds and ends on the menu as well like hot dogs, French fries, etc. etc. The drinks are extremely basic you got soda, watah (water), coffee, and coffee milk (my fave). All in all the service is rarely terrible the food is good but do not go there with UBER EXPECTATIONS like many have done like many said its a step above fast food. BUT there is one thing I will back 100% and that is THE BBQ SAUCE THEY MAKE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD BREATHTAKINGLY AWESOME I COULD PUT IT ON ANYTHING ANYTIME ANYWHERE. (Locals know exactly what I am talking about)

Everyone listen up! Try the roast beef sandwich here! You ll be bl one away! Also my personal favorite is the ham sandwich. You can get it on a torpedo roll or two crispy buttery pieces of toasted white bread. Highly recommended!!!

This place is an awesome spot if you want some good food cheap. Burgers are great, milkshakes are super, and did I mention CHEAP?

Also a childhood memory type of place, it still serves up great roast beef sandwiches, and there is simply something about their burgers. I don't know how they get them to taste so charbroiled, but they are something special.

best place ever. i go to bryant and we love the place. not only is it good but also cheap. i always get the roast beef sandwich and a steak sandwich with fries. service is always quick and friendly.

My girlfriend and I went to Beef Barn last week planning on spending 8-9 bucks each for a sandwich and drink, boy were we wrong. With 3.50 roast beef sandwiches and dollar fries this place can't be beat. The decor is pretty cool too. I will definitely be going back.

Great food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. I had never even heard of The Beef Barn until I met my boyfriend and he took me there for lunch. For a long time I always got the the BLT special (their specials is the sandwhich with fries and a side salad and your choice of dressing) and I must say, their BLTs are pretty awesome! Crunchy lettuce, tasty bacon and juicy tomatoes made it one delicous BLT. I got the BLT because I was never really a fan of roast beef until one day my bf roped me into trying it and......a fan was born! That was 6 months ago and whenever we go I always get the roast beef special. I think what makes it so delicous to me is that if you ask the staff, they'll cook the roast beef a little more for you if you like it done more! When I get my sandwhich it's piled high on a hamburger bun with those yummy crunchy fries and a side salad. And it's all for a reasonable price of $5.50 :) I must say, I love the decor in the restaraunt with all the cows and farm humor but my favorite room is the round room with all the stuffed chickens. It's a very adorable and fun place to eat, and just spend time with friends or family. The staff is always very nice and helpful, prompt and they always supply us with more condiments if we ask for them :) I've never had a bad experience eating there and I don't think I ever will.

Gotta love The Beef Barn. The beef is roasted right on the spot and that approach is show in the food they serve. It's consistently fresh and with high quality. For what it offers, you are not going to find anything better. It's really an institution in North Smithfield.

There's nothing negative to say.Vanilla milkshakes for a buck fifty.Delicious grilled open faced steak sandwiches.I had a steak sandwich with fries and a salad,my son had a roast beef with both sides,we each had a hot dog,we each had a shake, and it STILL came to under 19 dollars!!It's old fashioned casual, with vintage signery throughout the place. We have sampled this place on many, many occasions and it is always good!

When I was little, this place was the usual family dinner-out spot. Although they dont do the pickle canister on the tables anymore, this place still has character. Old fashioned decor, and no-frills menu fit with this casual place. Try the coffee milkshake!!!!

  • C C.

oh, the memories. the food isn't anything imaginative or spectacular... but it is some damn good grilling. the fries are the best. cheap as can be, too. i grew up right down the street and spent many afternoons after school sucking down cheap, huge, delicious milkshakes. ah, the good old days. there are picnic tables outside, but no waiter service there... still nice to have the option on warm days, though. the service is always excellent... especially the sweet older ladies who have been there forever. also... don't plan on going late night, even though some people have voted it a good late night spot. it isn't open late night during the week, and on weekends it has to close before Coffee & Cream opens for their late night deal.

Very simple food, but it's filling and delicious. The blt is the best I've ever had. They know how to perfect their bacon. I tried to order something else but when I open my mouth, I say blt again. The apple turnovers are phenomenal and crispy. And their pumpkin and blueberry pies are up there too. The waitress remembered us even after the first time, she's really nice. Put simply; good food, quick, delicious and cheap. Cash only but there is an atm inside.

I am obsessed with beef barn. And lets just be clear from the start. I know beef. Ive had kelly's roast beef, I been to the country's best steakhouses, I've even had Japanese dry aged in TOKYO. Ive had enough beef in my life time to be personally held accountable for the death of AT LEAST 5 cows (hey, I'm a small person). Is this where you go to get the expensive stuff? No. Its where you go to get quality, shaved beef on a soft buttery bun for just under four dollars and its FANTASTIC. dO you love the Arby's beef sandwich? (Its ok to say yes here, you're in a safe place). well if so, this is the "normal food" equivalent. And i haven't even gotten to the best part yet! The whole restaurant looks like the interior of a barn! I ate mine in a chicken coop.

This place is like the holy grail to all of the people I work with. The minute I started working in Cumberland all I heard about was the Beef Barn. To tell you the truth, it may have been hyped up a bit too much! When I finally was taken on my "maiden voyage" to the Barn I was told that I should try a couple of sandwiches with different toppings. My first beef sandwich had cheese and mushrooms on it. When it arrived I could tell that the beef had taken a quick walk through a warm room, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for me. I was also told that the BBQ sauce supplied on the table was a must. After taking everyone's advice I can tell you that the Beef Barn is a nice spot. They only take cash and have a cult following. Definitely worth a trip....or two.

It just makes me happy. In every way. The decor. It's in a barn. With a silo. And a chicken coup room. Stone hearth. Antique farm stuff on the walls. A model train above the menu. Diesel meat slicer. The food is simple and honest. Great roast beef. Crispy fries. Grilled saugy style hot dogs on grilled buns. Surprising soups. I had pumpkin bisque last time. It was great. Old school deserts. Family run. Moody. Witty. Real. I love these ladies. Old school adds on the counter top. I just love it.

The Beef Barn is a good place to stop in for lunch. The roast beef is very fresh and usually served on the rare side. The hamburgers are excellent and taste great from being cooked on the grill. Service is fast and they always get the order correct the first time. Everything is served on paper plates and plastic forks, spoons etc.

This is a good place that has been around forever. Think it's a little over rated but the food is good. Prices are cheap but that's because portions are small. So depending on your appetite might have to order two Lol. Had the steak and cheese and was served in a toasted hot dog bun That's what I think sells it is the butter toasting of the bun. The fries were just OK nothing great. Staff is polite and do there job Well. Make sure you bring cash because That's all they take.

Always love them. Best burgers around. Great shakes. Crispy fries with creamy middle...how do they do that? And now making their own potato chips, worth s trip just for them ! Call in your order for pick up. Quick trip off 146 Fast friendly service

I gave Beef Barn a 3 star because the sandwiches are great and delicious and the style of the whole place is very unique. It really reminds me of a barn while being inside. I love how part of the restaurant has a dim setting. I love the decoration of the place and the people who work there. I had a really nice waiter. The only thing that I wasn't satisfied with was that the table I was sitting in was very sticky. I felt like they just wipes the table down with a wet rag and that's it. I felt kinda grossed out about that. The bathrooms were kinda dirty as well. I just feel like they should clean everything more better. That's why I ended up giving them a 3 star.

This is a neat little place that everyone seems to know about. When I first moved here, one of my coworkers insisted we go for lunch and I fell in love with the place. The food is really good and pretty cheap. I usually get 2 roast beef sandwiches and douse them in their BBQ sauce. Delicious. The atmosphere is cool. As the name suggests, it's a barn (or what used to be one at least). The staff is very friendly and most of the customers are too. When it's really busy, things can get tight in there. You can call in your order ahead of time and pick it up which is great for parties. It's a great restaurant but beware -it's cash only! There is an ATM but ATM fees kind of ruin the whole great value of their food. I would go a lot more if they accepted credit cards since I rarely carry cash.

  • Dan J.

I love the look and feel of this place but wasn't pleased that I couldn't order a shake an hour and twenty eight minutes before they closed. The food was brought out quick and the service was friendly but I didn't care for the roast beef (the reason for the visit) one bit. I'll revisit again because of the atmosphere and in hopes to have my opinion of the food change but I won't hold my breath.

Decent place. Been going for years and mostly do take out. The steak sandwich is a very good deal. The roast beef is tasty, but if you've had Kelly's or Walt's you'll be disappointed.

Love this place! Everything I've had is good. Coffee milkshake is great! They also have veggie-burgers, and my parents came here all the time even as vegetarians. My fiancé is also vegetarian and loves it. I don't know what a lot of the people in the low-star reviews are talking about. If you are going to rate a restaurant based at all on the look of the clientele, then you must just be a shining gem yourself. The food here is very inexpensive, and yes they give you paper plates, plastic utensils, mayo packets, etc... It's a burger place! Maybe the large french fry isn't as big as you'd like, but they're so cheap you can order two. Some people say that the cooks are doing unsanitary things and then go on to suggest that Wendy's or Arby's is a better choice... You can't see in the kitchens there and I can promise it is worse. I've also never had a rude waitress. Yelp is a place to give helpful tips (like, 'make sure to order the pickles') and warn people of truly terrible experiences (like getting ripped off for example). One star for this place is harsh. Telling people to ignore all the five star reviews because they are written by townies is pretty weird. Recommending a fast food chain over this place is insane.

Awesome roast beef sandwiches! This is more of a quick sandwich establishment and not meant to be fine dinning. They do have other items, such as burgers and chicken which are also very good. Not much room inside for big groups. Give it a try if you love roast beef soaked in au jus and piled on a buttery toasted roll. Price is on the very low side as well.

  • Nick G.

I've been coming here since I was a child. Best roast beef sandwich I've ever had. I've also tried other items like their cheeseburgers, steak sandwich, BBQ chicken, etc, but I keep coming back to the roast beef sandwich. Their fries are also consistently good, always crispy. I hear they have great shakes as well, although I've never been much of a shake guy myself. The decor is rustic and pleasant. It very much embraces the "barn" motif. They even have a chicken coop and silo off of the main building where you can sit and eat. I've always enjoyed looking at the old advertisements they have as the table laminates. The prices are quite reasonable: a couple can easily eat there for under $20 including tip. The only downside is that they only except cash. No cards.

Wonderful find for a delicious sandwich stop . waitress took her time explsining menu and specials - recognizing we weren't 'locals' ! Simple menu , simple presentation - paper plates , plastic cutlery . Had their famous roast beef and it did not disapoint :) finished off with some great bluberry pie - definite return stop for us when we are passing through !

Take out or dine in, the food is just yummy. One of the few places that satisfies my vegan wife with their veggie burger. (not all veggie burgers are made equal apparently). The roast beef is frequently discussed as nirvana. I wish I liked roast beef that much. Sadly, I'm stuck with burgers and steak sandwiches. Well stuck may be a harsh word. I enjoy every bite. The secret to a great experience? Service is fast, staff is friendly and most have been there since my first trip in 2001. The food is simply good and simple. Butter is the secret ingredient we all don't know we are missing in our diets! Butter makes it better. Oh and I have an enormous amount of respect for the fact that they actually close on holidays. Allowing your staff to enjoy the holiday over making an extra buck scores points with me. Kudos!

This place is greasy. There is a stench of filth in the air and the food choices are very unhealthy and not prepared in a same manner. Wendy's operates a cleaner environment. It attracts rude customers for some reason and the condiments are dirty. Yes, catsup bottles need to be washed.

I have been going to this place since I was young, I am in my early twenties now. As a child, I loved the decor and all the old newspaper clipping tables and the Chicken Coop room. I also got the Roast Beef special. I've had other things, but this is my favorite. Being out in California now, I just wish I could have some Beef Barn! The Staff in genuinely nice, but its usually the company you bring with you that makes the experience all the better. Cheap, great tasting food, and fast service, that is not fast food. Couldn't ask for better.

  • Michael E.

This place has food that basically is free. Nothing is above like $4.00 in price, but the trade off is that the portions are smaller. It's sort of a psychological war, I guess. I love the decor in here, super rustic northern Rhode Islandish and eclectic. The home made pies are very good, so definitely opt for a slice! I came here with my mom and she was a big fan. Bring cash, no plastic at this joint.

After much fanfare, I decided to give Beef Barn a shot. I was pleasantly surprised to see an adorable interior with different themes in each room and adorable nooks and crannies to sit in. We sat in the chicken coop themed room and although it was dark in there, it was cozy and inviting. I think the biggest downfall of our visit was truly the waitress. She was seemingly a jaded server who had some years on her but overall was not very friendly. She didn't smile. She wasn't warm. She wasn't friendly. She wasn't attentive. She was short and almost rude. We ordered the fish sandwich and a burger and they were OK. I will say that the shakes (coffee and vanilla) were absolutely delicious! I am tempted to give it another shot to see if I can get tastier food and better service but in the meantime, it's a 3-star joint.

This has been the first time that I've been to this restaurant, I would like to say that the cheese burger was delish!, it reminds me of eating a cheese burger off my back yard grill it has a great taste, I recommend this place I will be definately coming back again

Don't know what is so great about this place. We went with the kids and got cheeseburgers and fries, and my son had a couple hot dogs. We also got some chowder to try. It's all cheap and quick, which I can appreciate, but the food wasn't really good at all. The cheeseburgers we got with everything added and the mushrooms tasted like the got dumped directly from the can, onto the burger (pretty sure they did). The waitress wasn't very friendly at all, and we had to ask a couple times for mayo that was forgotten about. We were not sure which size fries to get and she said to get the large, because the small was very small. She wasn't kidding.. The chowder was good, but a little paper dixie cup of chowder isn't enough to make me like the place. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because I didn't get a chance to actually try the roast beef that everyone is raving about, but I doubt I'll go back to do so, even though we live right down the road.

This place rocks. Wicked cheap, succulent roast beef sandwiches. Wicked cheap food overall. Awesome service. I'm deducting one star because their wedding soup tasted of bouillon instead of a nice broth. They seem to have a lot of good options on the menu. I can see myself visiting here regularly.

Most tender roast beef I have ever had. They are extremely affordable (but make sure to use the in-restaurant ATM because they don't take cards). The service is fast and not very warm, but this restaurant has people coming in and out consistently. I would suggest the roast beef, the fries, the coffee milk shake, the burger, and the steak sandwich. If you are really hungry though, order two roast beef sandwiches.

  • Bill C.

Big fan. Prices are great and everything is good! Friendly staff and very quick service. Can't go wrong with the roast beef or the pastrami for under $4 each. The only reason this place isn't 5 stars is cash only. But I get it - helps them keep cost down and allows them to make one of the best products around. I will gladly make an extra stop at the ATM for this place

Once I had it in my head that I wanted a roast beef sandwich fromThe Beef Barn I was in trouble. The Beef Barn is that kind of place - so rather than fight it, I gave in to my hankering and drove to North Smithfield this afternoon (but not before making sure I had enough cash as this is a cash only place). I had what I always have: a roast beef sandwich (always fresh sliced and served on a buttered, toasted bun), French fries and a salad with their white French dressing (the best!). Always, always get the milk shake at The Beef Barn. Preferably a coffee shake to keep this RI authentic. You don't come here to have a long, relaxed dinner (you'll be in and out in a half hour) or for the romantic atmosphere (it's plastic forks, throw-away plates and replicas of old Sears Roebuck catalogs on the tables with a napkin dispenser flanked by vinegar and catsup for your fries). You visit The Beef Barn because you'll get a great sandwich and an old-fashioned dessert (think grape-nut pudding and raspberry turnovers) for less than the price of a ticket to a movie at the mall. I brought my kids here when they were small and waited for a table in the "silo" or the room with the chicken coops with taxidermy roosters and I expect I'll be bringing my grandson here in a couple more years. Yay! Another excuse to sit in a booth and feel like I'm in a time gone by.

I love going to the Beef Barn! The roast beef sandwiches are excellent! I don't know of any other restaurants where you can have your lunch in a room decked out to look like a chicken coop or an actual barn silo. I've been going there ever since I was little, and I started off getting the cheeseburgers, but once I tried their roast beef sandwiches, I was hooked! The wait staff is friendly, and I love all the old school ads on the table tops. The restaurant is cash only, but the prices are good, so you don't have to choose between lunch or your wallet. If you're looking for a good roast beef sandwich in a truly unique setting, you should definitely check this place out. They're official address is $ Greenville Rd. in North Smithfield, but following your nose is way more fun.

Ill keep this short and sweet. I have been coming to Beef Barn for years. It is a great sandwich shop that is faster than McDonald's and a million times better. I pretty much get the same thing every time, a Roast Beef and Cheese Special and a milkshake. 2 minutes later I have my meal and I can be out in under 1/2 an hour. If you are looking for a quick and delicious I would recommend the Beef Barn! Just an FYI it is cash only

Interesting place. Food is OK, but not gourmet by any means. Staff is friendly and fast. Not a bad place, just not compelling to me.thin burgers, small roast beef sandwiches. Tried it the once.

Service was mediocre, I wasn't expecting much ambiance from a place with the name "barn" in it. I also didn't like that there were no prices on the menu, even though it was all very affordable. Still, I would have liked to know how much my meal was going to cost before the bill came. We had the steak sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes and they were very good. The large fry is really a small order. To go somewhere and have decent food for under $20 for a couple is almost impossible to find. The price is great for what you get. It's cash only but they do have an ATM on site now if you solely live on plastic.

A group of friends and I made the 4 hour drive from New York City to North Smithfield this past weekend. We had heard grumblings that this was where they served the freshest, beefiest cut of roast beef in the Northeast. We found this to be true. Sue waited on us and did not disappoint. She was quick and knew that we were there to get down to business. She brought me a chocolate shake and I swiftly drank that. Next was the beef and fresh cut fries. I had two sandwiches with nothing on them. Just beef on beef on beef on a potato bun. "Enjoy your lunch," she said, plopping the steamy goodness before us. We all did that. We weren't in there more than 40 minutes but we were sure to take a photo outside before heading home. You want roast beef done right, hit the Barn.

You have to be a crank or a snob not to love the Beef Barn. Service is fast and friendly. Food is vintage Rhode Island/Americana, simple, fresh, good, and straight forward. Prices are incredibly affordable. Atmosphere makes you smile every time you visit. It's a place you like to be at and want to share with friends, which we often do. Go there! Be happy! It's a simple choice that takes you to a simpler (delicious) time!

Cash only, seriously & don't forget the pickles! Drove by the Beef Barn about a zillion times before I paused out of curiosity, as I was on a mission for sweets to Wrights Dairy Farm. Now after awhile I start to crave the super, hot tasty roast beef sandwiches from the Beef Barn. Checking my wallet for cash I make that small hike to Woonsocket which is always worth it! Oh & not to overwhelm but the last visit I tried the pastrami w swiss, another winner!

When family is visiting from out of state, this is on the short list of must-get-to-places. The roast beef sandwich is their signature item but it's all about the cheeseburgers for me. I'm told they have awesome frappes. Cheap Eats at its best.

At least it's cheap. The only reason this is getting two stars. Good thing I had cash on me. Don't plan on using your debit card. * The food was .. okay .. roast beef had very little flavor and the bun was soggy. * The "chicken cutlet" sandwich is nothing more than a frozen chicken patty that they deep fry. * The "grilled chicken" is a pre-cooked piece of chicken , they merely warm it up on a grille. * The "large" fry was under cooked, greasy, and barely enough to share. * The cooks were seen putting raw meat on the grille, and then touching finished sandwiches with the SAME gloves. * The stack their paper plates in front of the grille, next to the raw meat. The sides of the paper plates were covered in raw meat and blood. * Want Mayo? They'll throw a couple of mayo packets at you.

Ok people, as a Yelper, I'll call the Beef Barn what it is: a local fast food joint where local people go to grab a quick, cheap bite. Nothing in this place has changed in 30 years, including the food. It is not updated, it is not sleek, it is not hipster-chic, and you'll probably find the silo and taxidermied farm animals offensive. As a native NSer, I'll call the Beef Barn heaven on earth. In high school, it's where we would come for lunch after exams, for dinner after our chorus concerts, on a first date when you don't have a lot of money to spend and your parents still need to drive you everywhere. It reminds of being a kid and I guess that's why I love it so much. I truly do think that the roast beef sandwiches are really delicious. A warm bun, warm rare roast beef with a side of fries and a chocolate shake. Delightful! If you come here expecting to eat a roast beef sandwich that would convert a Hindu, don't bother coming. If you come here expecting Wendy's-like "Biggie Size" portions, well, go to Wendy's. If you're looking for a quick, cheap bite that is satisfying and pretty tasty, then welcome!

Yummy burgers and fries. Quick and easy counter service. It would be 5 stars, but the servers aren't overly friendly. I could have visited on an off day - I will update if I return and notice a difference.

It is what it is... Ambiance, hummmmm BARN! ok - if you want atmosphere, go for a hot air balloon ride. You get what you pay for. Those waitresses are not getting rich. I smile and tip well and always get a smile and good service. I make special trips just to go there. No where else makes fries crispy like this place. PERFECTION. It is nice to have some where affordable ( besides the usual fast food chains) to bring children. I call it NO FRILL THRILL! If you don't like it, don't go; there will be more room for those of us who appreciate it for what it is. Casual, cheap and GOOD. LONG LIVE THE BEEF BARN

I would love to give this place more than 3 stars but the customer service really sucked here today. I walk in and at least 2 people walk right by and look at me, no smile, no someone will be right with you. There were at least 4 people right in that area too who could have said something. Eventually one of those same people finally came over to me. The whole time I was there I felt like I was burdening them by being there. I ordered a sandwich to go. I've never seen a more miserable bunch of people working somewhere, no smiles anywhere, talk about bad vibes. Management needs to get on this asap. I am big on aesthetics and love the decor of the inside and outside. Roast beef was very tender but bland so add seasoning and bbq sauce. I am not sure if I would go again because I was pretty turned off by the attitude here, but the food was decent and arrived quickly. Also, cash only but the prices are cheap so it's kind of a tradeoff

Three pillars for a failed experience----dirty table, unfriendly service, and a cook who we witnessed changing trash bags while cooking the food. No change in gloves...no washing of hands. Quite possibly the most disgusting action I've ever witnessed at a restaurant. I was EMBARRASSED to have brought people with me to this place.

I am a fan of the Beef Barn. From the taxidermied animals to the newsprint tables I love it all. Food is reasonably priced and I order two hotdogs, small fry, large salad, coke and dessert for 11.00 dollars. You really cant do better then that short of cooking at home. The staff is fast. You sit, you order, you leave. this is a great place for a quick, cheap, and good meal.

To be honest, I like coming here more for the unique Blackstone River Valley speech patterns some of the waitresses have more than the food. But if you do eat, the prices are cheap and service is like clockwork. It's just a hole-in-the-wall local sandwich shop that customers that live in the area come to by habit (you'll see generations of families come here). They have sandwiches like burgers, pastrami, a lobster roll in summer (I'd personally skip the lobster roll and head over to Kay's nearby), but I tend to just get their roast beef (it is called the Beef Barn), which is sliced thin right before it's served to you. No pre-sliced grocery jello beef here. Decent option if you're in the area.

Oh Beef Barn, I love you so much. I'm only echoing things said by other Yelpers (and said best by my very dear friend Steph F.), but whatever, I do what I want, you're not my real dad. THINGS I LOVE ABOUT YOU, BEEF BARN: - The prices are insane. Oh, hello cheeseburger for less than $5, how are you. Get in my mouth. - The pickles are gigantic and they'll cut them however you want. Chips? You got it. Spears? Sure! Whole? Duh. Shaped like paper dolls all holding hands? Okay, they'll probably draw the line there. - They only have two types of dressing, and those types are "Italian" and "French," and that's really all you need. Get out of here with your damned "Sesame Ginger Vinagrette" silliness. - The chicken coop. - You can order whatever you want "special" which means it comes with a small salad and a small serving of fries on a sectioned plate! A sectioned plate!! - Their milkshakes are to die for. - Peanut butter pie, grape-nut pudding, apple turnovers, omg desserts so many desserts. - The service is the kind I like: leisurely (they'll get to you when they feel like it), brusque, to-the-point, but pleasant. No coddling here. No "my name is --- and I'll be taking care of you." I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything else from a tiny local establishment. Look around and then get over yourselves. - Your food gets to you in approximately twenty seconds. And it's good. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE THE EXTRAORDINARILY LONG TRIP DOWN 146 AND THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT IT: - It's cash only. It's cash only it's cash only it's cash only. And it says so on the signs posted all over the place. Don't be a jerk and complain to the waitress when you "discover" it's CASH ONLY. - It's local. It's enjoyed by locals. It's staffed by locals. It's the kind of place where everyone expects you to be a local, too, and therefore looks at you a little funny when you don't know the things they know. Expect it and accept it. It's part of the charm. - Order whatever you want "special." Remember what I said: the servings of salad and fries are SMALL. If you want more fries, order more fries. The prices are cheap. - Nothing comes on the sandwiches unless you ask for it. "Roast beef" is "roast beef," not "roast beef with lettuce tomato mayo onions etc." - PICKLES.

Such a cute place - we felt like we were in the countryside (which I guess it is..?). The service was decent enough, the food was OKish but they only take cash and with no prices on the menu that is stressful (to stressed out people such as myself:). I wouldn't make the trip back especially for the Beef Barn but if I was passing and actually had cash (which is NEVER!) I'd stop again. It was cheap and cheerful :)

What can I say, I love beef. Something comforting about a place that does something well over and over again. I wouldn't make a trip just for it but if your going by you shouldn't pass it up

Its really really hard for me to rate something a 1 star check my profile they are few and far between. But once an establishment reaches the one star level I just have to share. Walking into this place I felt like I had stepped back to the early 80's and the cliental looked the part. Its a seat yourself restaurant if you don't take out so don't bother asking the cashier because you will get a strange look. Looking around the place they have some interesting decor, a bit country to be honest. They have a very basic menu and the only thing that really sticks out is the roast beef sandwich (it is after the beef barn). Its pretty cheap, you have to pay for additions though. I ordered the sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo (how I usually do at walt's) with a side of fries. No more than 5 minutes later I had my sandwich. It was... errr weird, I asked for mayo they give me a mayo packet and a plastic knife. As for the sandwich it is as if they didn't dry the lettuce off or something, the bun was really soggy. The fries I ordered were greasy, soggy and I did not even want to eat them after the first few bites what a waste. The waitress was very short and to the point I felt kind of rushed but she looked like she has been working there since it opened so I can see why she doesn't love her job. She wouldn't stop correcting me when I tried to order and even sighed when I asked a question about the menu. I asked "can I please have lettuce, tomato and mayo on my sandwich?" I got: "/sigh tomato and lettuce come together so you don't have to order both, says it right there". Wow, I mean if the joint was full (it was not) I would be able to maybe understand if your short with me but the attitude .... Maybe it was the bad waitress that made the food taste worse, I just do not know. I am not coming back since this place is out of the way anyways.

Been coming here for 40 years. Look, it's not elegant and it's not polished. The ambiance is about the same as it was 40 years ago. Hit it at the wrong times and you have to wait for a table or take a crowded counter stool. They don't take credit cards and the menu is limited. Okay, now for the good stuff. Grab a quick meal at a fantastic low price. My favorite is the pastrami sandwich. The condiments are on the table and so is a sugar shaker. I rate the creamy French salad dressing as one of the best I have ever eaten. I buy a pint of it often to take home. There is no china and no silverware. Paper plates and tiny plastic forks, knives and spoons. It's a strange mixture of good and bad but the good kind of outweighs the bad in my opinion. Grab a quick meal and it's fine. Want a very low priced meal it's number one. Hoping it will be another tres elegante and you'll be very disappointed. And for those who wrote reviews about the small portions I can only say hey if one wasn't enough why not order a second? Or even a third. You'll still end up with a very small cost.

Most of the others reviewers already nailed down everything. I love this place and have been going for years. They have the best roast beef and a BBQ sauce that tops it off quite nicely. I love all the food and they have great prices. Under $10 a person in most cases. There is no silverware. All meals come on plastic plates with plastic utensils. Makes it easy for them when the place is packed. Check out the pictures I've attached. They don't accept credit cards but they recently installed an ATM.

For those reviewers saying that The Beef Barn is only getting good reviews from townies...you are so wrong my friend. I was born and raised in central Massachusetts, and recently on a whim decided to move to Woonsocket with my best friend and boyfriend. When looking for some places to eat, we drove past The Beef Barn and the planets aligned. I actually went to The Beef Barn when I was very young with a childhood friend and her family on the way home from the beach. Probably back in the early 90's. All I can remember from that day was a car full of excited Beef Barn enthusiasts, and me having no idea what I was in store for. Since that day I have been raving about The elusive Beef Barn. ( I was never quite sure where it was.) And here I am as an adult, moving to a new state for the first time in my life and what do I happen to live 5 minutes away from? The childhood memory of The Beef Barn! My boyfriend and I decided to go for Lunch and I was super excited to sit in the chicken coop that I remember from when I was a kid. DISCLAIMER: No, we are not townies, and NO we didn't get treated like crap, or get weird looks. We were greeted with a smile and a, "you can sit wherever you like." Once we sat down our waitress was incredibly nice and friendly. We ordered 2 burgers, an order of fries, 2 sodas, an order of chicken tenders and two coffee milkshakes. All of that cost us $20. Not only that, but the food is AWESOME. Please understand that the food is not 5 star restaurant awesome, but fast food awesome. Best burger I've ever eaten. The food is so cheap. Milkshakes are delish, and everything tastes fresh and amazing. Nothing tastes frozen or processed. The staff has been very nice each time we've been back, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. If you don't like burgers and fries, don't even bother. Someone on here was complaining about paper plates and plastic cutlery....are you kidding me? That's like getting mad at McDonalds for not giving you silverware and a porcelain bowl for your dipping sauce. C'mon people. It's fast food. In a Barn. Of Glory. So no. Not everyone who loves The Beef Barn is a local. But now that we are new locals, I guess you can say they have new fans that will be going back over and over again!

The roast beef sandwiches are fantastic. The service not so much. I sat at the counter for a while and I understand that it gets busy, but multiple waitresses walked by me without even acknowledging me. I had to flag one down to place my order and they were quite unfriendly. Only after I finally ordered did someone approach me and ask if I was being helped. The food comes out really fast though and it is the best roast beef I've had around here.

I used to work nearby and was told by a few co-workers about the Beef Barn and how great it was. OK, so I went and tried it. The place is a dumpy old shack that really needs a good cleaning and disinfecting. You walk in and there's a bunch of locals sitting at the tables and counters. Most of the people there look like they just walked out of the fields - just saying. Service is on the grumpy side, and not at all charming like some people like to pretend about rude servers. If you don't appreciate my business, screw you, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I got the roast beef sandwich. This is a sad little pile of tasteless well-done beef on a frigging hamburger bun. No onions, no sauce, no nothing! Bland, boring, and totally unimpressive. Oh, and the crappy fountain soda was flat too. I went back a month or two later, figuring maybe I caught them on a bad day. Nope, same crappy food, dirty restaurant, flat soda. I'm not a big fan of fast food, but you will seriously get a better meal at a Wendy's or McDonalds than at the Beef Barn.

Best roast beef sandwiches. Great prices. Very fitting to enjoy a roast beef sandwich inside a barn turned booth style restaurant! Staff us always friendly, and usually a constant flow of people. Never a long wait time. Love the pickles!!!

Oh Phantom Gourmet, how I both love and hate you. As I watch you on Sunday you show me so many delicious foods, but this usually ends in having a fat kid Sunday. On a recent episode you showed me a list of top 8 Roast Beef joints in the area, and The Beef Barn was one of your top recommendations. It was close to lunch time and only a mere 20 minutes from my apartment, so my girlfriend and I made the journey to put your recommendation to the test. The first note that I must make, as it is 2011 and this annoys me greatly, is that it is Cash Only. Luckily this was clearly stated on the door, and the nearest ATM, while not affiliated to my bank, was only .5 miles away in a stop and shop (thanks Places app!). Hopefully this review will help others be prepared with cash ahead of time. I was surprised by the small amount of seating inside, but was still fortunate enough to find an empty seat immediately. The decor is exactly what you would expect from some place with the word 'Barn' in the name, and that is not an insult nor negative mark on the restaurant. I ordered the Phantom recommended Roast Beef Sandwich, while my girlfriend ordered the steak sandwich. We also ordered a "large" french fries to share. The prices were very good, but the portions were a little disappointing, so next time I will know to order more (which is possible with the low prices!). The "large" fry mentioned above was anything but. The roast beef sandwich was on a hamburger bun, and left me still hungry due to the size of it, but boy was it delicious. Juicy and flavorful, I can easily see how it was ranked so high by the Phantom. The steak sandwich was larger, served on a large hotdog bun, and was reportedly delicious (enough so that I was not offered a sample!). We ordered desert as we were still hungry, and got the peanut butter pie. It seemed store-bought and will probably be skipped on future visits. My recommendation: order two of the roast beef sandwiches and go to town. If you are expecting sit-down quality, don't. This is a step up from a fast food joint and expectations should be as such. But if that is what you are craving this is definitely the place to go! We will be back for more, with cash in hand next time.

To get an accurate assessment of the Beef Barn, ignore all of the high rating reviews and focus on the low ones. Everyone that gushes about it on here is obviously a local and doesn't see the place for what it really is; A dirty little fast food joint that should have closed their doors years ago because of their lackluster attempt at making food. I'm sure the only reason this place has the high rating it does is because it's been around forever, and the locals have a skewed perception of what it actually is. Like any place, when you grow up going to the same place all the time (for lack of options, cost, or whatever), you end up holding it in high regard as an adult. This is one of those places, and it doesn't deserve the rating it has on this site. The place itself is kitschy country. It vaguely resembles a barn, has a themed room called the chicken coop, the main dining room has a counter with stools surrounding the prep area, and tables to the side. It's very much set up like a diner. Instead of diner food, though, you get a low end fast food that takes as long as a sit-down restaurant to get. The roast beef sandwich is a sad little pile of flavorless beef on a hamburger bun (which the waitress described as a bulky roll). The fries are shadows of their former selves after being overcooked to the point that the potato that is supposed to be inside isn't even recognizable. The soda was barely carbonated. If you ask for mayo on your sandwich, you get your sandwich and a handful of mayo packets. For some reason, there are relish packets mixed into the paper cup containing the various sweeteners. Neither my wife, or her sister finished their chicken sandwiches because they both thought they were gross. The only thing I actually liked about the Beef Barn is that it's cheap, so I don't exactly feel ripped off. If you want roast beef though, Arby's is actually better, and cheaper. Don't bother going to the Beef Barn, and ignore the locals that act like it's the best thing on earth.

People who are complaining: You went to a restaurant called the Beef BARN! That is like going to the Dress Barn and being a pissy-pants when there is no Chanel. Get over yourself. The Beef Barn serves decent food fast. It is a step above fast food. The roast beef sandwiches are good, the fries are okay and everything else I have eaten here has been been good (like the cheeseburger and chicken fingers). If you are looking for fine dining, you are clearly in the wrong part of the state.

For someone who grew up in Woonsocket (a Woonievillian or, if you prefer, a Rocket) there are certain rules that you must abide by or you will be asked to leave. Right there in the rulebook, smack dab in between "You must have been employed by CVS at one point in your life" and "You must think that Autumnfest is the best weekend of the year" is "You must love The Beef Barn". As someone who has moved away and has no intention of ever moving back I can say, without any fear, that I don't get the Beef Barn craze. They get style points, I'll give them that. The place does look like a barn and the interior has a unique style. And, as a bigtime carnivore, I try really hard to like anything with the word "beef" in their name. Once you get past that, however, the place doesn't have a whole lot going for it. Their biggest draw is a cooked roast beef sandwich on a grilled bun. Is it cheap? Absolutely, but it damn well better be for the small, unimpressive sandwich they're giving me. You get a better deal by going up the street to Stop and Shop, buying a bulky roll from the bakeshop, and a few slices of roast beef from the deli. Maybe this place is great for those who insist that their sandwiches be warm, but I'd prefer a cold roast beef anyway. Maybe it's great for those who demand fries with their sandwich, but I'm perfectly content with chips and their fries aren't all that impressive anyway. You can go ahead and accuse me of forgetting my Woonsocket roots, but to that I say that the Beef Barn isn't even in Woonsocket! It's in North Smithfield.

You guys: The Beef Barn is awesome. For so many reasons. 1. The outside. Have you ever seen such roadside loveliness? It looks like a barn for chrissakes. A big beautiful barn, full of beef. And there is even a tractor outside. Americana at it's finest. Go ahead, get your picture taken sitting on the tractor. You know you want to. (Also, on the way up on 146, keep your eye out for the sweet freakin' milk jug shaped building on the right.) 2. The inside. Agricultural diner decor at it's best. Seating options include counter service, the silo, or my personal favorite, the chicken coop (do not sit in chicken coop if you have a fear of birds, especially stuffed birds.) 3. The food. Greasy, heart attack inducing, perfect. I pine for this place when I am drunk, pissed off, or hormonal. A grilled cheese, fries, and massive pickle (so big it comes on it's own plate!) can fix pretty much anything. 4. The prices. I went here a few days ago. There were five of us, and the bill was 28 dollars. 28 dollars! Totally worth the drive. My only complaint (and it's a super minor one) is that this place isn't open late nights. It would be the perfect place to go after a double feature at the Rustic. But there's always Coffee and Cream for late night grease (right next door.) In conclusion, if you don't like this place you're probably a jerk.

I've been coming here since I was a little girl. They have great pastrami sandwiches. The interior is so quaint and cute. If you've been coming here as long as I have you have seen the price rise a bit but it's worth it. Although the french fries and roast beef sandwiches are run of the mill it wont keep me from coming back.
